7th SEMESTER ARCH - COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN STUDIO
Brief was to create a primarily-mass-timber design situated adjacent to the Union Station of New Haven, Connecticut.
Project is about an interfused, heretic Office + Res. program: applying bifucation, molting, and phototropic logics within a new kernel to subtly reinstantiate the atmosphere of the too-recursive ambient location.
“It depends on the level of entropic nature a society stands at to where the byproducts such as pandering, crime, overwhelmingness of noise, numbingness, etc. become an issue to which an adjacent entity has to respond to. To whether or not a building becomes strayed from an environment or not. In the case of both parties (buildings and their people), one simple action/affair can send each into their own recurive cascade of turmoil which constrasts them in being and connection, and increasingly separates them further with every recurrence tick. The building will respond to the immediate environment and adapt to whatever outside elements are at play. It can initiate building design to find that grove in robustnest and as refuge —— in this case we see a permeation of this notion of armor and thick filtraton from the interior to exterior. These calluses cause the building over time to become desensitized to the outside world, spiraling into an enclosed modality where eventually it createst its own reality separate to the macro reality that is on the outside of its nebula. This design intervention is to slough the over-development/build-up of these calluses and allow for the pores of the entity to breathe and sense/perceive again —— brute-forcing an opening up of filtration and awareness of the environment rather than a closed off superficiality.”
